June 12, 2015, Bretzville, Indiana - American Legion Post 343 veteran Richard Mangel of Holland tossed flags on the fire during an official flag burning ceremony Friday evening at the Dubois County 4-H Fairgrounds in Bretzville. More than 1,000 flags were burned during the ceremony. Old flags that need to discarded can be dropped off at the American Legion or VFW posts in Dubois County. From there, the flags will be properly disposed of at the annual ceremony.

4 April, 2015, Jasper, Ind. -- Dakota Roach of Crystal, 11, gives Northwood Retirement Community resident Katie LaRue a hug after helping LaRue to her room at the Jasper facility. Roach has been visiting the home since his grandfather, John Sendelweck, became a resident in 2008. Sendelweck died in 2011, but it took only a month for Dakota to start returning as a volunteer. “I’m just good with old people, I’ve been around them all my life,” he said. “You just have to treat them like kids." Ya'hirr Fierro of Ferdinand, 6, floated on his back in the water as he played with his grandmother and cousins on June 22, 2016, at Ferdinand State Forest Lake. Fierro's grandmother, Gloria Villarreal of Ferdinand, said she tries to take the grandkids to the lake almost every week during the summer months. "I like it here because it's quiet," she said. "It's good for the children to get out of the house."

30 May, 2014, Evansville, Ind. --- World War II veteran Alton Reininga of Evansville flashes a smile after Deanna Rhoades of Newburgh kissed his cheek during the return of the Southern Indiana Honor Flight trip to Washington D.C. at the Evansville Regional Airport. The more than 60 veterans on the flight were welcomed back to Indiana by family, friends and community members. Honor Flight, a national nonprofit, flies World War II veterans and terminally ill Vietnam and Korea war veterans to Washington, D.C., for free in a one-day trip to see war memorials. 15 Jan. 2015, Jasper, IN -- A bald eagle flies above the trees on Thursday morning near the driveway leading to the Jasper Water Department treatment plant off of State Road 164. From 1985 to 1989, 73 eagles from Wisconsin and Alaska were introduced to Indiana along Lake Monroe near Bloomington. The re-population process was gradual, but Indiana had between 70 and 100 nesting sites by 2010. Five of those sites were in the woods near Jasper at Patoka Reservoir. The population has since flourished to an estimated 250 nests in Indiana. (Copyright The Herald)

Cuero, Texas and Worthington, Minnasota share the long tradition of racing turkeys, vying for the title "Turkey Capital of the World." Each town selects a turkey to become its hopeful winner and every year the two towns host a turkey festival and the highly anticipated "Great Gobbler Gallop". This year Ruby Bagonia took the win.
